2011年10月12日 · Madcow 5x5 is based on a routine from Bill Starr that used power cleans instead of rows and high pulls instead of deadlifts. The power cleans were done 5x5 on Monday and 4x5 + 1x3 on Friday (no back-off sets).

2010年4月20日 · After stalling 3x on squats I moved to madcow 5x5 and am in my 4th week now, so am now trying to repeat my previous 3x5 weights for all exercises. The problem I'm having is that my squats are much weaker. Previously I could grind out 122.5kg for 5/5/4 squats. Now I'm barely managing 120kg 1x5, taking 5 second pauses as the set progresses.

2011年7月7日 · The stressor in the Madcow is supposed to be the Heavy triple on Friday followed by a backoff set of 8 at the 3rd sets weight. For example a heavy squat triple at 325 followed by a set of 8 at 260. Maybe that is enough to cause an adaptation for the following Monday where you turn that triple to your top set of 5.

2013年7月8日 · I seem to be having some issues with Madcow 5x5, did Starting Strength for about 3 months and switched to it after having issues after heavy squatting 3 days a week, and my other lifts started stalling. First few weeks were successful, but now, when i go on Friday(the day with triples) i have no issues lifting the weights, but I stall on Monday.

2015年1月3日 · Madcow is quite similar to Texas Method as there is a volume day, light day, and heavy day. The main difference is that the light day has heavy overhead press. I feel I progressed well with just 1x5 deadlifts in Starting Strength and Texas Method, so I will probably do the same for deadlifts in whatever I start now rather than ramped 4x5.

2017年7月11日 · Im now 30 years old and I started with Starting Strength in 2009/2010, after goods results but no further increases I changed to the above mentioned Madcow 5x5 intermediate programm. I ended up with 331lbsx5 in SQ, 270lbsx5 in BP and 375lbsx5 in DL.

2011年8月31日 · I always found the Madcow spreadsheet a little strange, it increases the top set by 2.5% or something every week. That makes no sense because the heavier the weight gets, the FASTER the increases get. It's supposed to be the opposite no? More advanced trainees need SLOWER progress, not faster progress.
